As a follow-up to Greg Valerio’s talk in Fairtrade Fortnight we contacted Winchester’s independent jeweller Jeremy France. We were delighted to see from his website that his firm uses conflict-free diamonds. He invited us to visit him to talk about Fair Trade Gold, which he has in fact used. Because Fair Trade Gold depends on higher standards of production in the mines and better conditions for the workers, there will inevitably be a price differential. There needs to be a demand from customers for this to be taken further.
